Day Preconstruction Method — Text Explorer

This app allows you to explore narrative texts from a series of studies on the Day Preconstruction Method. Participants were invited to vividly describe a day in three different temporal conditions:

  • Present — a typical day in their current life
  • Near future — a day three months from now
  • Distant future — a day at half their expected remaining life expectancy (5 - 50 years)

We examined how imagining the distant future shapes decision-making and valued living. People who wrote about a day in the distant future showed a stronger sense of connection to their future self and, remarkably, behaved more in line with their personal values in the week following the study.
